CANON JOINS HANDS FOR THE STAINABLE ENVIRONMENT

(Thanh Hoa - March 21, 2020) - Canon Vietnam coordinated with the Management Board of Ben En National Park to successfully organize the programs of “For a green Vietnam” and the protection of biodiversity to contribute to combating climate change, and protect precious species.

Currently, Vietnam is one of the 10 countries which are severely affected by climate change. The impact of climate change has been greatly affecting the sustainable development not only of Vietnam but also the whole world. With the philosophy "Kyosei" - "Living and working for the common good", towards the Sustainable Development Goals initiated by the United Nations, in recent years, a lot of activities and projects which were launched to join hands with Vietnam in protecting the environment and combating climate change, has been successfully carried out. In particular, the project "For a green Vietnam" and the activity "Hand in hand for biodiversity protection" is a typical example.

Planting forest project "For a green Vietnam" and the "Hand in hand for biodiversity protection " program are a series of activities under the theme "Protect and preserve environment" with the aim to 5 sustainable development goals which include Goal 6 - Ensuring sustainable clean water resources, Goal 11- Reducing impacts of natural disasters and adapting to climate change, Goal 13 - Implementing urgent actions to address addressing climate change and its impacts, Goal 15 - Protect, restore and encourage sustainable use of ecosystems on the surface of the earth, sustainably manage forest resources, combat desertification, prevent soil erosion and prevent the loss of biodiversity and Goal 17 - Enhancing cooperation and financial support in order to achieve the goal of conserving and developing valuable forest resources. In 2020, Canon has supported and coordinated with the National Park to plant additional 10 hectares of forest, increasing the total area planted in Ben En to 170 hectares. At the same time, Canon also cooperates to carry out biodiversity conservation activities at the animal conservation center of the National Park, such as planting grass to feed deer, caring animals such as monkeys, turtles, peacocks and cleaning cages and luminescence. Canon's project has received high appreciation from local authorities, people and moreover, it spreads awareness to the community in environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, especially those that Young people - future owners of the country.

Mr. Dang Huu Nghi - Director of Ben En National Park said: “This is the 9th year, Ben En National Park cooperates with Canon in implementing the planting forest project “For a green Vietnam”, the project brought practical effects not only for the local people but also the surrounding areas in regulating the climate, ensuring terrestrial and aquatic life, and especially preserving valuable assets - The forever green islands for all generations. Moreover, the cooperation in biodiversity conservation will further contribute to the maintenance and protection of the park's biodiversity. We are always grateful to Canon for that, and we hope that the project will be expanded so that not only Ben En but Vietnam will be as green as the name of the program” .

Through these activities, with the cooperation and support of the local government and the Government of Vietnam, Canon believes that the project will continue to expanding more to contribute for the work of biodiversity preservation and climate change prevention for a better and more sustainable future.
